Pros

A lot of smart people work at DISH, but honestly most people aren't that engaged in what they are doing. I don't work crazy hours, but no one in my department does. Some departments work crazy hours thought - 7 PM meetings for certain departments are par for the course.

Cons

There is absolutely no trust at this organization. The employee turnover at corporate headquarters is higher than any company that I have ever worked for. Everyone jokes that everyone is looking to leave. Doesn't make for the most engaged or motivated workforce. The company has absolutely no process, procedure or structure making it incredibly hard to get any cross functional work accomplished. There are far too many managers who rule by intimidation and fear. Also, don't fall for the "DISH cares" crap. DISH, or should I say Charlie Ergen, gives 0% of any money raised. DISH doesn't even match employee donations. It's basically just employees volunteering during non work hours or giving money/donations from their own paychecks. Dish EMPLOYEES care... but DISH does not. There is a huge difference and how HR is using it as a recruiting tool is hilarious and deceiving.

Pros

Your coworkers are extremely intelligent. You'll move up quickly if you can outlast everyone.

Cons

They won't be your coworkers for long Upper management does not believe in marketing. The (extremely antiquated) philosophy is that if we have the cheapest product at the lowest price, we will be the market leaders. Upper management doesn't know anything about marketing and doesn't care to learn.

Some good people to work with.

Talent Planning is alive and well. Everyone must rate on a Bell Curve. Completely unfair appraisals. Someone will be put into the top and bottom 10%, whether they deserve it or not, the rest of your peers will get an average review. The worst part was people removed "without cause". Quarterly reviews are glaring....then, at your annual review, you get a "does not meet standards", backed up by nothing, to meet Talent Planning numbers for the year. What this means: supervisors try to rate fairly, while senior executives, "calibrate" people out of the company to trim the budget every year. The only issue there....if you're not a senior executive, you will be let go without warning. You can be cut at any time for any reason. Learn from experience....don't work here. DISH Culture = Work yourself to death...for no overtime and no promotion opportunity.
