Pros

Dell pays a competitive salary and generally supports work/ life balance. If one of a chosen few, you would be given high visibility roles which would help you career grow. Dell generally supports flexible working hours if the business needs permit. Salary is great when compared austin cost of living.

Cons

Lack of career growth opportunities as Engineering development work is sent off-shore. Doing presentations to senior management is valued more than doing innovative work in the lab. Dell is a marketing company and not an Engineering company. It is more interested in selling commodities cheaply, than into putting money into R&D and innovation.

Pros

Great starting place if you don't have any thing else. You will learn a lot of sales training, and it has helped me in life as well as in jobs. I think that it is a good opportunity for a college student or young person just starting out.

Cons

Bad management at times, too many changes, and they do not communicate the changes to all employees. The compensation plan changed alot, and many people were upset because they would sell the same, but the pay gradually decreased, and sometimes drastically decreased.

Pros

Working at Dell can expose you to leading-edge technologies faster than many other non-technology companies. Also, the company is continually re-inventing itself (sometimes for the worse) which may mean a constant refresh of skills, depending on the department and immediate management.

Cons

The constant churn of re-organization and re-direction of strategy can be very tiresome, and breeds a culture of indecisiveness at times. Also, a person's experience at Dell is highly influenced by his/her direct management - having a poor manager can make one's life quite miserable, even in a successful department.
