Pros

Speaking on the engineering side, there is a lot of autonomy. If you have an idea and some gumption you can make a big impact. Legacy parts of the stack are mostly deprecated and we have great tools and modern practices (lots of movement on this in last year or so). People genuinely aligned on the mission. Recent CTO placement (VP was acting as cto anyway) is great, both for the company and the general culture, especially for the engineering side.

Cons

Covid related layoffs were a big hit to morale. No extra pay for being on call. Some weird resistance to embracing a distributed team.

Pros

I like 4 thinks about working at Earnin 1) The mission to build a better financial system is real. Product teams focus on customer value first, taking the long view that what is best for the customer is best for the business. 2) Teams have autonomy to set product/project directions. We run in-depth quarterly planning process to evaluate customer/business data, and then teams have autonomy to select the highest impact projects to tackle. This creates a culture of ownership (and is exciting!). 3) Earnin is a flexible work culture, especially for people who commute/have families. I do my best focused work at home, and at Earnin I can do this as often as needed. 4) There are great growth/development opportunities -- just raise your hand. Finally, equity/compensation + perks are solid (Caltrain Gopass, good/healthy snacks, >weekly company lunches, dinner if you work after 7pm, etc).

Cons

My only complaint is the onboarding process. While everyone was quite helpful/open to answering questions, I felt silly asking many basic questions that could have been documented. This would help new employees feel more welcomed + get up to speed more quickly.

Pros

Company is doing well financially, thanks to their legacy product doing well. Your base salary will be hard to say no to. Hiring people with stellar resumes for product.

Cons

new products are not doing well. There is too much micromanagement for them to well IMO engineering teams are not empowered - leading to poorly engineered products . PMs get blamed for everything afterwards anyway Some managers are more concerned with getting promotions and looking good than being a good person/ manager.
