Pros

It used to be the people but most of the good people have moved on as the firm focuses its attention on chasing the Big 4 and maximizing earnings per share for the partners. Interesting projects and clients.

Cons

Don't be fooled by the window dressing of the "Culture Journey" at Grant Thornton. The partners "talk the talk" but don't "walk the walk". Like most professional service firms, billable hours and sales are all that count - understandable - but Grant Thornton used to care about its people too. Now it is all about "enhancing the partner's wealth", which they accomplish by paying less than market, poor benefits, and zero to "joke" bonuses to employees.

Pros

Some folks are great to work with. Some of the leaders really do care.

Cons

Workday practice is a total mess. They have trouble selling work and hours are much lower than they should be so consultants end up spread very thin across multiple projects and still can't hit utilization targets on paper even if they are working very hard in actuality. The independence requirements are insane!! If I had known I would have to disclose all of my investments and be told wha t I am or am not allowed to invest money in I would not have taken the job. Independence is total hell and most consulting firms don't subject employees to those invasive requirements.
