The worst company I have ever worked for - Advisory Associate Director KPMG Employee Review

Pros

Some (not many) of the colleagues are truly competent, so you can learn a lot by working with them.

Cons

The company is like a chiefdom with the chieftains (partners) fighting for the same business with each other - very little internal cooperation. Partners have no leadership skills or strategic thinking, the only strategy the company has is to grow revenue and to become the 'envy of all' (which by the way is not a strategy, more like an overall vision). Some partners have even gaps in their knowledge of their own subject matter. Partners are very skilled though in saving money in employees' salaries, working conditions etc. People who get ahead in this organisation are those who behave like the partners, not the ones with the smartest, innovative ideas or the best quality of work. Also face time is highly valued even if not productive. There is a lot of talk about the company values but they are openly violated all the time. Worse than KPMG in other countries.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
