Pros

Exposure to clients. Yearly promotion.

Cons

Your experience is almost entirely determined on your luck, and unfortunately in audit, luck tends to run dry. You can have bad clients, bad seniors or managers or terrible workload...worse if it is all at once. Politics runs amok and I've seen perfectly decent workers punished over minor mistakes and major screw ups hand waved simply because of favoritism. You cant take leave on busy season, which for some is whole year. Expect to sacrifice all your weekends. Kiss goodbye a decent social life. If you're single, expect to remain single. For the hours you work and pay, this job and industry really isn't worth the trouble and stress and it is not improving any time soon if ever. If you're a fresh grad and struggling to find employment like I was in 2020, take this job only as an absolute last resort. As in, you can't even get a SME job. In the mean time, continue to look for better jobs.

Pros

You get to work with an awesome, highly resilient group of local peers in the advisory practice. The KPMG brand still holds value, but the internal team dynamics have become incredibly fractured.

Cons

We have outsourced 80%+ of our Risk Advisory work, leaving onshore seniors with massive gaps in their experience. As a manager, I am stuck doing senior-level work because I typically have only one or zero local seniors or associates on my teams. The best leaders have already resigned because this model prevents actual management and mentoring. Also, it might take you 30+ years to become partner in Risk Advisory, if at all.
