Pros
Flexible work hours, fix salary, you'll learn the difference between coding and product development. If you are lucky, then you can work on interesting projects and really good people. After a few years you can be quite autonomous.
Cons
Some projects are boring, same day, same things to do. Other projects can be chaotic and politics driven. Good luck finding the one you like. Some line managers are not doing what they expect from engineers: doing what they are paid for.
