Pros

You get paid to exercise, the job overall is not as bad or hard like everyone thinks it might be. Don't let fast paced environment scare you, it is an easy job. The pay could be a little better, but each year FedEx ground will reevaluate their standpoint on the economy. Depending on how the economy is, each package handler may or may not get a raise (cost of living raise).

Cons

It usually seems that the terminal I work at is understaffed. For the most part though, with the the full time package handler program coming about into the Pitt terminal, more and more people are starting to come into the different shifts. It works out OK, but there is a period of time between the outbound full time, and the preload full time people. Which means for us, OTP, that we are usually very short on people anywhere from 11:45 until 12:30. It is not all bad though, it just depend on when the full timers hit their 7.5 hours for the day. Other than being understaffed, the only thing that I see that could be a downside is you don't get compensation for what you do. $9.40 an hour for the work that a package handler does, I don't think that $9.40 is the right hourly rate. I think that package handlers should be making $11.25 - $12.00 an hour to start. With the recent raises though, I only know of one person who is a package handler, making $11.75 an hour.

Pros

FedEx is a company that has high expectations for it's employees and is always striving for excellence. This attitude is what enables the FedEx brand to be so well considered. Salaries are fair and the benefits are terrific. The fact that FedEx provides a pension for their employees demonstrates their commitment to their "People First" ideal.

Cons

Too many performance metrics makes it almost impossible to get a perfect report card and can become distracting to performing the job at hand. Lot's of time is involved outside of the office. FedEx is not the place for a person who is only willing to work 40 hours a week.

Pros

FedEx offers a competitive salary and the opportunity for advancement within the organization. In a relatively short amount of time you are able to progress from a part time employee to a full time manager. In addition, FedEx offers loads of useful training and college-type courses for personal growth. Further, the company also offers compensation beyond hourly wage and benefits in the form of college tuition reimbursement, discounts, travel benefits, and more.

Cons

Some of the detractors of working for FedEx would be the hours; often they can be unpredictable and vary especially when you are part time working towards full time, or when you are a swing driver. There are also at times issues with staffing and the overloading of work on employees. One can however understand that to keep the company going and competetive you must keep labor costs lower and productivity higher.
