Pros

hands-off management style, name brand company, stable, decent benefits and work-life balance , product diversity and reach, competent co-workers, can always look elsewhere in the company (variety and diversity of jobs to move into), resources and deep pockets,

Cons

Politics, management turnover (constant), hoop jumping as a result. Individual stars rewarded versus team players, competition internally, good work can go unnoticed unless favored, engineering and technology driven culture often clashes with marketing elements

Pros

Privately owned company historically not afraid of investing in up and down markets. No quarterly Wall Street pressure means management can take a long view. Historically, very good compensation packages at all levels. Intellectually challenging environment with lots of talented people.

Cons

Recent, sweeping management changes have been tough on the rank-and-file, and the outcome isn't entirely clear, yet. Technical innovation is often dampened by "big systems" thinking and, recently, tight budgets and timelines. The downside of lots of talented / smart people is that one occasionally encounters staggering levels of arrogance.

Pros

There are a lot of very smart people working in the IT area here, and it's been a pleasure working with them.

Cons

There are also a lot of very lazy people working here who have adopted a "cover my butt" attitude. Taking risks and initiative is actively discouraged by multiple layers of middle management who are afraid to be on the "wrong side" of a senior manager, so the safe-but-inadequate decision is preferred over a better solution which entails some risk. Too much paper-pushing and red tape in getting things done. HR & Management like to crow about paying "industry average" salaries, which to me seems like a way to guarantee you'll only retain "industry average" talent.
