Pros

The other employees and their reputation.

Cons

They're blinded by the numbers on a page, unable to see the real value of the people standing right in front of them. It’s the same old story: climbing the corporate ladder at any cost, with no regard for the hardworking individuals and their families who help them get there. Unfortunately, that’s the harsh reality

Pros

Slower pace of the summer - they struggled to find projects I could participate in, which meant that my workload was light. Interns I met - cool people that were just there (like me) because Gensler was paying marginally better (like literally $3/hr) than other companies

Cons

Compensation - despite holding a Bachelor of Science, having over two years of work experience, and working towards a Master’s degree, my compensation was comparable to that of a fast food worker. This left me feeling that my qualifications and contributions were undervalued. Commute to Oakland - The firm’s lack of transparency about the office renovations and the subsequent move to Oakland led to an unexpectedly longer commute, which was nearly twice as long as my previous one. As someone living further south, I would not have committed to a 1.5-hour commute had I been given the full picture. Strict In-Office - I found the requirement to be in the office five days a week somewhat unfair, especially since most people were on a hybrid schedule. Many of my team members were often absent on Mondays or Fridays, making the rigid policy feel unnecessary. No Return Offers - No indication of return offers for interns, and it seemed there was little effort to maintain any relationship post-internship.
