People only come here to be able to put it on their resume

Pros

You get a Paycheck twice a month.

Cons

Culture, Management, they have a company policy to rate everybody within the entire dept from 1 to however many and then get rid of the bottom 5%. Each manager must rank their own employees from the best to the worst and the worst will be let go, even if you have 10 of the best employees and they work together well, all employees are keepers but you have to decide as a manager to the one you want gone each year even if it's a great employee. Rate them all as you feel they are as an employee but they kick them all back and say you must rate someone as a poor performer....even if they aren't. That is a company policy. No one brings in personal effects because you could be gone tomorrow. They make managers write bad reviews of good employees. Over 50 and you might as well take all your stuff home. Biggest age discriminators in the game. Worst company to work for. It's nice to work where someone values your thoughts and ideas because Goldman Sachs definitely doesn't! Would never recommend this as a company to work for. Parents....don't let your child work here. They will be miserable for just having Goldman Sachs on the resume. Definitely don't care about anyone.

Misogynist, racist, anti-Semitic boss. Run away NOW.

Pros

None. None. None. None. None.

Cons

I was unfortunate enough to be stuck with a misogynist, racist, and anti-Semitic manager. Example: When setting the support rota for April, he waited until I went to lunch, sat down with everyone else on my team, and pulled out a calendar and deliberately scheduled me to be on call during Passover. (He himself never took call.) Another example: I was held at fault for "arriving late" every time there was a delay on the Metro-North commuter rail or the subway. Yet another example: There was a subway strike while I was at GS. All employees who had to take the subway were allowed to telecommute for the duration of the strike. My manager was not affected by the strike. He wrote me up for telecommuting because it was "unnecessary" -- for HIM. I did my best to deal with the situation, but it was untenable. I approached upper management, who told me to deal with it. I ultimately dealt with it by quitting for my own mental health and finding a job in Midtown Manhattan where they understood that delays on Metro-North were Metro-North's fault, not mine. And their idea of work/life balance is "if you have time for a life, you obviously don't have enough work to do, so here's some more!" People don't leave companies, they leave managers. I left mine.

Pros

Brand name for you to be attracted to recruiters few years down the road (Maybe). Talk at GS is awesome if you ever get to go.

Cons

Even the recruiters are starting to realized that there are not that many smart ones left in this company and all false illusion. I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they mention lots of smart people. 1. Finance is a dying industry so everyone is looking else where at all times. 2. Oversized tech talent in the firms are all real tech company rejects. Never gets anything done and nothing really to be proud of. 3. Goldman is no longer the best in the industry and lost its innovative touch for years. They are trying copy what others do and they are doing poor job at it. 4. My daily internal interaction involves dealing with at least one egotistic pretentious narcissist per day. 5. All of Ops roles are dependent on playing politics and pushes for no quantitative measurement on performance and advancement in career. 6. Operation has lowest compensation across all division and fake small bonuses you get does not depend on the business line you support. Basically could be pulling 12- 14 hour days regularly but it hold no weights comparing bonuses to people doing 9-5 function. Most managers will justify it as career opportunity but really - its just for them to suck every little life out of people.
