Reviewed based on observations in HCL Kolkata
Pros
1. Opportunities given to people who don't meet academic/professional eligibility criterions of MNCs. 2. Opportunities given to people irrespective of academic background and capabilities. 3. Job security.
Cons
Firstly, my reviews will be based on the account I have served in for 2 years. 1. Most of the projects in Kolkata are the rejected ones except for a few. That being said, the senior management given responsibilities are not capable enough to handle them but I presume this is due to budget issues and hence hiring of low-paid managers. 2. Lack of technical management to understand in-depth complexities and provide assistance and negotiate with the clients hence the in-ability to provide valuable suggestions. 3. Some accounts have the worst work-life balance and some don't. The 'Employee First Customer Second' policy is not in effect at least not in the account that I have worked in. 4. Some accounts have the worst BU(Business Unit) heads which questions the process adopted to assign BU head. Never in my life have I seen a BU head having total distrust/frustration from employees, in this case my account. 5. The HR policy in Kolkata is influenced widely by BU heads. The senior management controls the HR team in all respect. 6. I consider HCL a low-cost company typically the reason they pay salaries less than market rate, provides less employee facilities, less expenditure on infrastructure. To sum it up I'll recommend HCL to freshers or people in dire need to get a MNC tag and suggest people to enquire/research about the project you get into before joining and the reasons people have left the account.
