HP in steady state of decline

Pros

HP's working culture has always been inviting and collaborative. Staff is friendly and not cut throat as I have seen in other companies. After a time of stagnating innovation, HP is moving hard toward developing more innovative products. New blood in management is bringing fresh ideas into a older company. * Career opportunities are stagnating but HP does do a good job of promoting from within. * Benefits are slightly above average but have tended to get more restrictive over time. * HP pays generous signing bonuses for new employees.

Cons

HP has in recent years fallen off as an employer of choice In my opinion. First the business has suffered greatly in the marketplace as the sale of its products and its market share has declined. This has led to a great deal of turnover and volatility in the business. Hiring at HP has been slowed to frozen at times and in my own experience my staff was never back-filled when someone left. When I came to HP I was being considered for promotion. Now, after several years, the company has split, my staff divided and gone, and now I am no longer even a manager much less promoted. Career? Dead end at HP! Other Cons include: * HP's remote worker policy that HP was known for has all but been eliminated. * Salary increases hover around 1-2% YoY even for top performers. * In my best year, 2 months after receiving a productivity award, I received a 1.1% raise. * Bonuses: With my staff eliminated after HP split, my bonuses on avg will fall from >$10K to ~$5K if lucky.. * Work/family balance is still decent at HP, but has declined in the last 2 years. * Some staff resistant to obstinate about collaboration and working together in EMEA. I cannot recommend HP as a place to work right now (2016) because of the volatility. Too many workforce reductions in recent months and years and the threat of more loom in the near future make a recommendation untenable.

Pros

Large company with plenty of opportunities and great coworkers. Everyone tries to do what is best for the company and the customers. A very noticeable change in the company culture since the company separation in Nov 2015.

Cons

Horrible relationship between HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise with a lot of bad sentiment between the companies (not the employees). It makes things difficult considering there are legal documents requiring HP to continue doing business with Hewlett Packard Enterprise at a very high cost. Hewlett Packard Enterprise has shown no interest in being a loyal, customer-centric partner. Business teams have little to no budget for new projects or initiatives. All of the funds were taken and devoted to IT. IT has little to no new work as it is being cut to the bare essentials in an effort to shift towards outsourced 3rd parties and contract labor. It is not uncommon to hear areas of IT and the business have been reduced by 30% or more. There is also little to no discretion as to who is impacted. Top rated senior Distinguished Technologist who has been with the company for 15-20 years? Fired. The lead and only person who understands and supports that critical business process? Fired. That person who sits at their desk simply looking at their phone? Oh, you can stay. Very frustrating to say the least. Almost all of the most knowledge, talented individuals I've known have either been laid off and subsequently blacklisted from returning (thanks to HP's workforce reduction policies), or willingly left to seek better opportunities elsewhere. The general feeling across the company is that executive management is attempting to improve profitability simply to find someone who will take it over (buyout, merger, etc.).

Company in chaos

Pros

The work-life balance is very good at HP. You get to work with some fantastic people as well. Pay for my area is pretty good.

Cons

Where to start. This company is in dire need of recapturing its identity. Management gets too wrapped up tracking numbers and whole divisions have been created just to manage slide decks that are tracked at some level, but never followed. They've committed so many resources to tracking metrics that they are constraining themselves on working on product. Since the separation from the larger HP organization my role has changed into such a tactical job that I feel overpayed for what they want me to do. I've lost the connection of what I do and how I contribute to the larger goals at HP.

Hi and thank you for your review! It's nice to hear you appreciate the work-life balance, our teams and the compensation package! I am sorry to see that you are not optimistic about our future. As you know, we're going through a lot of changes these days, and changes provide an opportunity for improvement. Your feedback is important to us and will be communicated to our senior managers, but just want to point out that there are a lot of process improvements planned to be implemented, including how we track metrics and how we will use the information to make decisions and take action. ~ Madalina Antohe, Employer brand & digital media leader
