Great place to work?!

Pros

Global enterprise allows exposure to opportunities normally associated with much larger companies. Initial salaries are very competitive. Still family-owned, it makes for a good story -- until the economy went south. Many long-tenure employees and lots of company pride.

Cons

Frequently rated as one of the "best places to work", a peek inside the company reveals why employees feel that way: Most of those long-tenure employees are such due to a total lack of ambition and initiative. Employee turnover is typically due to those who endeavor to move forward in their career realize that it will never happen at Hines. You're expected to do the job you were hired for, do it exceedingly well and do it forever. Salaries are above-average but the internal politics and games are the worst I have ever experienced. Career paths are non-existent. Hines has a real paranoia about appearing in print, so don't expect anyone outside of the company to hear about anything interesting you've done.

Pros

Good benefits for families. 401k matching is good.

Cons

As long as you are white, male, straight, and have a connection to Jeff Hines & Family, you will be promoted for just showing up to work 2-5 days a month and doing the bare minimum. If you use the words "add value" in your daily nomenclature, you'll be loved even more by leadership and HR.

Pros

Some of the people are nice to work with. Decent benefits. Give plenty of vacation time just see cons because its impossible to use. They pay for your parking downtown.

Cons

Work life balance is not what people rave about. Being on the accounting side with deadlines all month long makes it very hard to take off without missing something or having to ask others to do the work for you. I don't want to waste vacation days only taking one day off here and there. I want to take weeks off. Hines also puts you on multiple buildings with different deadlines so that even if one building is done for the month you may still have another due 5 days later. Constant quarterly deadlines. I easily work 45-50 hours a week and definitely do not make enough salary to make up for it. Its not a slow 45-50 hours, its a grind 90% of the time. Majority of the time you can't expect when you will have to work late because one morning it will be somewhat slow but their will be a fire drill in the afternoon that causes you to work late.
