Pros

* For Engineering dept only: No butt-in-chair mentality or micromanaging. If you get your work done and on time, nobody cares when you come in or leave. You are treated like an adult who can manage their own work schedule. * Some really smart folks work here and built the company. You now have access to all this brainpower and knowledge, so you can learn from them. * Friendly, cheerful, open-minded coworkers. Whether your thing is being Austin-y, good coffee, sports, cooking, etc., there are kindred spirits for you here. * Extremely relaxed dress code. You could roller skate to a meeting if you wanted to. * The existence of a maternity leave policy. (This is a new thing.) * Growing list of fringe benefits: spacious open office, daily catered lunches, frequent office happy hours, shuttle service, boat parties, movie nights.

Cons

* Office is in West Austin off 360, far away from downtown/fun stuff. * Salaries are below industry standards, and it is difficult to negotiate for more pay. * No clear path for career advancement in non-managerial positions. * As noted above, management styles and work schedule flexibility vary greatly by manager and department. The Engineering dept gets the most freedom. The others, not so much.

Excellent Stepping Stone

Pros

- free breakfast, lunch and dinner and beer - flexible(ish) work environment - lots of very intelligent, cultured and worldly people - opportunity to learn a little bit of everything due to cross-functional nature of role - great product, great prospects for company growth - lots of start-ups and tech companies know Indeed, makes it easier to jump into a higher position at another company after paying your dues.

Cons

- current structure of the international team is a dead-end for most - some managers micromanage - other managers are very laid-back and people abuse their freedom - severe favoritism and fierce internal politics within certain regional teams - frequent 'promotions' are merely title changes with few, if any, extra responsibilities, power, or influence - some managers do not keep up with their responsibilities resulting in team members having to pick up the slack - managers taking credit for work their team does - lack of mentorship or general guidance - country managers with heavier workloads have less opportunity to take on extra projects than those with easier workloads - it is necessary to FIGHT for ownership of a project when something out of the routine pop ups - good luck moving to another team within the company. you'll have to find and train your own replacement, basically. it's taken some up to a year after getting the job before they can make the move.

Consistent Layoffs

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Family leave, flexible PTO, overall kind employees

Cons

In each of the last three years, there have been significant layoffs followed by large reorganizations. There is minimal room for advancement given the bureaucracy of the organization, and as soon as you gain momentum, there are these huge yearly re-orgs and you have to start from square one. Long time employees consistently comment on the change in the business from when it started to now, with these consistent yearly disruptive re-orgs.
