Pros

Amazing coworkers, amazing clients and the mission is unbeatable. Such an incredible experience that enriched my life. They have pretty good health benefits.

Cons

Very overworked and purposely underpaid through lowballing in grant requests and such. The employees are so stretched thin that it's a revolving door of employees coming and going in short amounts of time. Amazing mission to work for, but very few opportunities for growth.

Pros

You get to work with people from all over the world, different walks of life, and different cultures- to me that is invaluable life experience and I appreciate it so much. A very important mission and the work is actually making a difference in our clients lives. Lots of PTO, pretty good benefits (health is changing in 2023, a little more expensive for the option that was most comparable to 2022's plan), a culture of addressing and speaking about systemic racism and power imbalances, but... it feels like it ends at that conversation. at least there is a conversation for a start. Pays better than other NGOs.

Cons

Pay is underfunded for the work being done, disorganized, leadership isn't really aware of the day to day of program staff. lots of policies, procedures, and systems. Feels quite silo'd. I have provided professional feedback about my manager more than once and haven't seen any sort of change in their behaviors, which is a bit disheartening.

Pros

It is a big organization that values internal candidates because it takes so long to learn the internal ways of working, so it is easy to salary hop and move towards your interests once you have been there a year or so

Cons

It is not well structured and the support systems are limited outside of HQ so you can expect to be working all evenings with little guidance and scolded if you get things wrong. “Resilience” is one of four pillars of the “success model” that the performance review (and pay increase) is based on and that is interpreted by poorly equipped managers.
