Pros

The mission and work of the organization/employees is deeply inspiring and results in a passionate group of like minded colleagues working to support clients. The organization has a strong presence in the field and is well respected. Great medical insurance benefits.

Cons

The passion and drive to help others that often leads individuals to work at IRC is often undermined and at times abused by the work environment. Little training is provided, stressful situations abound with low support and resources, coupled with low pay and little development opportunities often leads to either staff burning out and leaving early - large amounts of turnaround - or check-out with staff doing bare minimum to get by. Little transparency among admin and HR. HQ provides some online development options but management are rare to provide actual time/support to staff wanting to take part. Difficult work-life balance as internal expectation is that you will continually go above and beyond your role.

Pros

-You're directly helping people and creating positive change in their lives -The diversity of the people you will work with-both clients and supervisors& interns is amazing and great experience -You have a good amount of responsibility as an intern and your supervisor will really allow you to grow in your respective department if you show them you are willing to do good work and show great interest -They let your skills shine and allow to work on/create new skills

Cons

-It is unpaid. Although you know this going in, interns do do a lot of work and it dawns on you occasionally how you wish you were getting paid for it. -The environment sometimes be disorganized and hectic
