The best place I've worked- but high workload

Pros

The best place I've worked. Great team of people and very interesting and talented colleagues. Good team-spirit. Well recognised and well respected organisation in the sector. International travel opportunities. Good at organising social events with colleagues. Competitive salaries for the sector.

Cons

Very high workload and high pressure of deadlines. There is also sometimes a tendency to recruit from outside rather than to promote internally. Staff members are often able to move around the organization to other departments but there is a reluctance to promote internally within teams.

Pros

Experience varies by country program, but the country program where I worked ran like a well-oiled machine. There was a lot of autonomy and room for innovation within your own job, but not much beyond that. The work was rewarding as the progress made was very tangible. Great non-salary benefits.

Cons

Salary was low compared to other NGOs in the country Not much innovation at the project design level Minimal room for promotion for international staff Minimal staff development for international staff Their development projects lack a sustainable vision as they are primarily accustomed to humanitarian aid.
