Pros

Salary is one of the best outside of oil & gas / finance sectors. Some (although can be few and far between) fantastic engineers to work with and learn from. Work/life balance is OK - expect busy periods and some quieter periods, much like any other job I've ever had. Flexible working arrangements are possible, depending on your particular role. However, if you do ever work from home, beware of the obnoxious views from other older colleagues. Looks nice on your CV.

Cons

Small fish in a big pond syndrome. A lot of the promises the company sells at interview stage aren't true. You will not be able to influence what goes on in the company, instead you will be attacked with 'this is the way we've always done it' and 'oooh - that sounds a bit risky'. Despite my 2 years of trying, I'm sadly having to finally succumb to this attitude just to get on. Progress reviews and development plans have, in my experience, been useless. Objectives and goal setting are great, but there is no push to achieve anything outside of your job role and its all very generic and corporate. Travel and Parking is a disgrace for such a large corporation

Pros

Growing at a fast pace, the company is very likely to stay for the long run which means good job security and able to spend on growth. This also means good career opportunities and of course a good pay package. A good amount of work responsibility to keep you busy without being stressful. Management which is generally very helpful with open door policies if they are free. However getting them when they are free can be very difficult because of their packed timetables. There is good visibility from higher management and positive impact is well rewarded and all feedback to the company is taken seriously. Smarter working offices means you are able to work from different sites depending on your own calendar, which you take control of yourself. Shows a high level of trust from management.

Cons

Getting on/off site can take a considerable chunk out of the day. This coupled with the early starts can impact work life balance especially when needing to stay over. Overtime has to be arranged a week in advance unless it can be approved as an exceptional circumstance which is silly and should depend on the requirements of the day rather than knowing a week in advance what projects will need to be worked on out of hours. Inconsistent level of support from management with some team managers being great but other not so supportive of your career and only interested in getting their jobs done. Not a lot of opportunities to experience the vehicles for some teams. Finally I feel the culture in some offices at Gaydon and Whitley has caused the pace of work to be very slow and there is a lot of room for improvement here.

Pretty Uninspiring

Pros

It pays very well for a pretty easy job.

Cons

Didn't consider matching my best skills to a suitable job role leaving frustrated in a job that I don't want to do. The traffic onsite and offsite is appalling. Departments don't work together at all. Work is not remotely stimulating, lots of menial tasks and repeating work that has already been done. Seems to be an expectation from some people that you should be grateful to work longer than contracted for.
