Pros

Flexible schedule with adequate vacation and sick time. Compensation is fair to good. Meets most people's expectations. Overall happy !

Cons

Open ended contract and currently up for negotiation. Do not know if we are to be resigned. A little scary since I have not been in this situation before.

Pros

A great place to plan to retire from. Opportunities in many areas and generous subsidies for good performers. Highly recommended.

Cons

Watch out for corporate climbers. This is a good company to stay with so some people try to stick around who do not do good work themselves by laying claim to good work done by others. Long as you watch your back you will be fine.

Pros

The work is easy and it's a decent job for people with just a high school education. You'll work lots of overtime, 45-55 hrs/week (this could be a con for you but I enjoyed the extra money).

Cons

Contract negotiations went poorly for the union this year, and there was a wage decrease. Poor training. New hires are paired with a veteran employee and expected to learn six different jobs in one week. They can only learn by doing, but if they stop the line more than a couple times in an hour they get fired. If the supervisor thinks you've finished training, he will put you on the line alone without asking for your opinion. I had my trainee taken from me after only two nights. Company uses a lot of "temps" to avoid paying their workers union wages and benefits. If you're hired on as a "temp", expect to work 8 months or longer before they will even consider hiring you into the union. During this time you will get no raises, no vacation days, and no seniority. The building is noisy and problems with broken/malfunctioning machinery happen every day. There's no air conditioning except in the break room, so expect to sweat like a pig during the summer months and you'll also be eaten up by mosquitoes.
