Pros

KPMG is a resume builder for future jobs. Additionally, if you see your life goal as becoming a partner and securing that massive salary while completely detaching yourself from your family and friends then it is a great place to build a monitarily wealthy career 10 - 15 years down the line.

Cons

KPMG spends significant time promoting its brand and selling itself as one of the greatest employers to work for. While benefits are good, they are coupled with and rather negated by low salaries (considering the time and knowledge commitment required to perform the job) and very long hours. 5 weeks PTO is somewhat negated by the massive overtime commitment. With large jobs the firm is frequently successful in billing for its employees’ overtime and all such billings largely go into the Partners’ pockets. KPMG very sneakily appeals most effectively to its core demographic, i.e. recent college graduates (typically 26 and under). As part of this core demographic we are treated as the minions of the firm and are drawn in through the firm making use of such techniques as plying us with alcohol and bringing us in as a cohesive "starting class" in order that we feel a certain bond with our peers and thus feel guilty about saying a bad word about the firm.

Pros

KPMG provides accounting graduates with a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge all while receiving a large amount of vacation and receiving comparable pay relative to the other Big 4 firms. KPMG is strongly promoting their Employer of Choice iniative which is evident in the way they treat their employees, random gifts and perks, special discounts(CPA exam reimbursement, CPA bonus). KPMG continues to promote knowledge sharing and provides a large amount of training that will benefit any person who makes accounting a career choice.

Cons

As with any Public accounting job the hours during busy season can be rough. In smaller offices I heard hours can be even worse than in Dallas. Although there are some 70 hour work weeks there are other periods when there isn't a lot of work to be done. It all balances out. It often feels like some Partners in the firm seem distant and above the interns/associates, but that has gotten better over the course of the last three years. At times I feel as though the communication between the national office and local offices is lost.

Pros

Decent benefits, especially the time off (4-5 weeks to start). Work/life balance is something the company strives for, but isn't always achievable. The KPMG name will look good on your resume.

Cons

I work on the CSS side of the business versus CSD. The CSD side works with the clients, the CSS side is all the backoffice stuff. I could not recommend this company for any of the CSS positions. They are low pay with little to no opportunity for advancement. On the upside, however, you will barely be working. I can't remember the last time I worked 40 hours in a week. This is in stark contract to the CSD side of the company, where 100 hour weeks are not uncommon.
