Pros

Starting pay for management is decent compared to competitors, benefits are decent, work/life balance is okay depending on how fair your store manager is to his/her co's, working in grocery retail is a good bet in any strength economy (everybody's gotta eat), relocation isn't necessary since there are so many locations.

Cons

Fringe benefits have been cut drastically even in the last few years - Bonuses are impossible to earn, raises have recently been capped to 2% annually (or less), no more raises for being promoted to other stores, no more outings or any other type of apprectiation shown by upper management, you MUST be political or have "connections" in upper division/G.O. management to move up with the company, even if you consistently get great evaluations by your store manager. Favorites in the zone are the norm by the DM, who consistently favors attractive females over the rest. Dealing with the union is a pain, especially with subpar hourly employees who know how to protect themselves with the system, turnover is high, and there is a constant clash between upper management in MERCHANDISING and OPERATIONS, which results in a total disconnect to the stores, being caught in the middle.

Pros

kind coworkers, lots of company spirit

Cons

overloads you with work, you have to figure it out on your own, no consideration for time, lots of pointless zoom meetings where people are more focused on the movie they watch rather than being productive, will gradually increase your workload without increasing pay, benefits are not that great, if you go on maternity leave your work will be waiting for you when you get back even if you are told someone will take over your work when you're gone, processes are inconsistent and all over the place. no one does anything the same but it's in a way where mistakes are definitely made frequently and instead of focusing on consistent efficiency and improvement, people across teams will be passive aggressive towards each there and have verbal sparring matches. some managers are intense micromanagers. they care more about making a profit rather than making sure all employees have work life balance. people here are robotic and seem so fake in their interactions with you. people will throw you under the bus to avoid taking accountability for their mistakes. overall not my favorite place ive worked. there are only so many decent jobs available in ohio so i'd advise looking elsewhere or working remotely. there are way better companies to work for other than this one.

Pros

Good team, I really like the people I work with! Good management, this is something that obviously varies by store but I like the managers at my store they do a great job for the most part. Easy work. The things you are asked to do really aren't all that hard and not too labor intensive or stressful. Supportive. A lot of folks will help you out with what you are doing and asking questions can be helpful. This kind of goes back to a good team but I think is worth noting

Cons

Fewer available hours. Very strict about overtime and i've heard managers take a lot of the hours for themselves. Low pay. I earn 14.50 an hour but it used to be 12.50. I know other grocery stores pay better. Can be hard to work two departments efficiently. Stopping stocking to assist customers at seafood can be a little infuriating. Basically forces you to manage your time especially if you're a closer like I often am. Some real interesting customers. Really strange and intense people can come in and make it hard to keep up a "customer-oriented" attitude with their entitled and rude behavior.
