Great work life balance, low on learning and growth potential

Pros

Work culture is great, its a place you can work for and yet have a satisfactory after-work life. It exposes you to the working on a global brand, and gives you that leverage on your resume. There are no late night assignments, or restrictions on taking leaves.

Cons

Since the motto of the company of late has been cost cutting, most operations have shifted to India, Manila and other emerging markets. This has made the jobs in these markets more operational, after a point (I would say 1.5-2 years), you feel dejected of doing the same job with no innovation, no learning and limited geographical transition opportunities. The ESG team especially has been extremely poor in terms of employee growth and career development. It started as an a niche segment with ample learning opportunities but has now become a KPO model churning out data with all visionary decisions happening in the developed markets.

Pros

Great benefit and fun people to work with. Not a lot of room to grow though. The product is going down hill because of poor software development life cycle.

Cons

The new management is too top heavy and they have been doing a lot of reorganization and have been laying off talented people. When it was still Riskmetrics, the management cared about the employee, things changed. To MSCI, you are just a number in the balance sheet.

Pros

Used to be collegial and respectful. Maybe it's going back to that in some areas but not very consistent. Pay ok but not very competitive.

Cons

Terrible team dynamics. A lot of jungle like extreme guarding, in largely aloof settings. Loads of long-term secrecy and targeting. Even king and queen-bee designates thoughout the offices. Often hard to just do a consistent meeting. Groups can be challenging to keep. software development scattered for a mostly software firm. Culture clashes and downright tyrannical upper management. Career Paths can be nebulous at best, unless one is responsible for controlling unit budget. This means if your work can be out-soourced or held to minimum wage gain, it will be. The managers, no matter how competent, are encouraged and even rewarded to do that. And in strange ways over years. So it's not surprising that the labor force very troubled. And not supported very much. Meetings are mostly for going through the motions. With often uninformed members who just stay around for the next party. Nothing wrong with socializing for team building, but we can do a lot more work. Even basic office processes create tension, with a kind of lazy, moody Facilities direction. Newer groups, like some of clients from recently acquired firms, can easily get just bewildered by a lack of professionalism. Dialogues absolutely not two way streets.
