There has been a chronic lack of investment in systems and processes. I work at MSIM and the amount of manual number crunching is frightening. Lots of not-very-well-thought out outsourcing which is so obviously down to penny pinching. I find immediate management are passive when dealing with more senior management and quite aggressive when dealing with direct reports and those lower down the food chain and quite eager to stab anyone perceived as a threat in the back. Pay is also not great and long hours are needed to get through the workload as teams are under-resourced.

Too many to list. I started at SmithBarney and was around for the "forced" merger into MSSB, and then MS. The fish rots from the head down. MS took a great firm and dismantled it piece by piece through ego driven management.
