      Morgan Stanley - Nirvana for technical people on Wall Street

      Pros

      Amazingly smart technical people. Some of the best .NET developers I have ever seen. Lots of Russian immigrants, many who have chess boards on their desks. They write almost all of their own infrastructure, including their own ticker plant, their own messaging bus, and more.

      Cons

      Turnover was a bit too frequent. Too much separation between the business and IT.

      Pros

      Work with the best in a fast paced industry, as much work as you can take on is as much work as you'll get - plus. If you prove yourself, you will advance.

      Cons

      Not so great for work/life balance. Normal hours is a 50+ hour week and way more during busy seasons. The urgency is always high and people tend to run around with 'their hair on fire'. You get paid well but you earn every cent.

      A large merged company that is still separated after all these years...

      Pros

      Big company with the ability to advance. Located in many locations such as NYC, Westchester, and Jersey City, NJ. Good benefits and a great stock purchase plan. Many of the manager that I worked with had been with the company for many years working there up through the ranks.

      Cons

      Even after all these year of the merger between Dean Witter and Morgan Stanley, there is still a big difference as to which side of the company that you work for. The current title structure is very flat, there is no Assistant Vice President (AVP), so Vice President is the first title position.
