Good company, but future in doubt

Pros

Job satisfaction, good legacy, decent technology, at least not merged with Wachovia...thank goodness! I think John Mack is a good leader, good communicator, and very blunt (which is kind of nice).

Cons

Lack of control of what happens with the company and it being in the news. Right now their future as a Morgan Stanley brand is in question due to all the mergers. Tough to work in this industry when you don't know what is going on (although Mack has tried to keep us informed).

Pros

Great reputation and prestige around the industry. Incredible knowledge of colleagues and managers. The potential to grow and advance here is much greater than you might find in other firms. If you are a hard worker and willing to put the time in, you can move up the ranks. Positive environment, and also huge stress on work-life balance, which is great. Vacation time is great compared to some competitors.

Cons

Potentially long hours. Many people in application pool (particularly in New York), which makes it that much harder in landing new positions, promotions, etc. Make sure to do things to make yourself stand out if your interested in climbing the corporate ladder.

Prestige, opportunity, excellence ... MS is a fantastic place to work, I enjoy what I do. Everyone goes into work liking the people around them, and you are part of a team of performers. There is a great deal of trust in what you get done, you can get more chances to do more important work if you show what you can get done.

Cons

It's the street, and life can be tough. Obviously, you have to have the stomach for the hours, the brain to do figures, and character to thrive under adversity. It'd be a lie to say that people aren't worried, but we'll pull through.
