Manager and his/her skills play a tremendous role in all respects. If you have a good manager, your work will be appreciated, hikes and bonuses are all up to the manager. Sadly, we dont have that many good managers. HR is a pain. They dont even let you get references from your managers/peers. So if you are planning for higher studies or job switch that requires a recommendation letter, you may wanna do it without too many people finding out
