Pros

paycheque to provide a roof over your head and food on the table you are young, dumb, naive, gullible and desperate for a job. You easily fall for their lies and the big projects you get work on at the big PCL.

Cons

I was promised many things when I joined PCL that never came including a detailed timeline for my advancement at my interview. It was all a lie, they just wanted a sucker to fall for their trap, work them like a dog with 50+ hour weeks and then toss you in the trash at the slightest slowdown. My feeling its cheaper for them to lay you off and then find a new sucker in a few months. When you are there expect tons of backstabbing from your colleagues . They will smile in your face as they stab you in the back. A superintendent told me to my face he thought I was a corporate spy for a competitor (he named them, I won't say it here). Extremely unprofessional group of people. I was laid off with 3 weeks working notice and boy was I thankful I found another job I could immediately go to. Lets not forget the PCL College of Construction. what a joke. You are expected to do it all on your time after working 50-60 hour work weeks. Oh, and don't expect them to pay for any classes either Pay is really bad too, the benefits are so so

Pros

Great learning opportunities, reasonable expectations, no crazy overtime, and good people.

Cons

Pretty stingy on salaries, they lean too hard into their share program for compensation which doesn't really help newer employees, you don't start seeing real benefits from it until you're there for a loooooong time. Also too stingy on work from home, very minimal flexibility there.
