Pros

PCL is a big company with a small company feel which allows individual contributors to make a big impact in the organization. I feel supported and valued by district management and corporate management. The company offers great benefits but the one that is most important to me is the employee ownership. I like that we, the employees, have a vested interest in the success of the company. I've worked in construction for a long time and this is the first company that offered ownership to employees at every level not just the high-level operational employees. The inclusive ownership model creates a team environment so everyone is always looking for ways to do our work better and improve our services.

Cons

The construction industry, not just PCL, requires long work days and weekend work in order to be successful. With that in mind, construction may not be the right work environment for everyone. Prospective employees should consider this fact before pursuing a job with PCL or any construction company.

Site management seems to not be willing to help with employees understanding of things. PCL seems to be a good old boys club

Autonomy - get to work on a variety of projects with minimal micromanaging from my boss Large Scale Projects - It's cool to work for the company that is essentially re-building our downtown core

Cons

Executives don't seem to understand that the shares aren't really lucrative for newer employees anymore - they're not the biggest draw to the company, which executives seem to think. Not super transparent. And outdated/crappy vacation policy.
