Failing due to middle management

Pros

The culture still tries hard to remain despite the struggles.

Cons

Middle management is corrupted. Unless you are part of the cool kids, you will never advance no matter how qualified you are. Current middle management has no concern for the company, only their status and their priority is keeping their positions no matter the cost. Too many long timers leaving because of this - and it's not a healthy place to work anymore.

Pros

Great work life balance, great PTO, okay 401k, pretty good insurance, nice partner discounts. Great place to get exposure to routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancers quickly.

Cons

Employment is being pushed offshore (management will use right shoring) to Mexico City and India. No raises for anyone outside of Mexico City and India. Fired a significant amount of employees over the past 9 months but for some reason it hasn't made it to the public but recruiters are aware of this. No backfills in the US, UK, or AU unless it's critical. Losing senior talent left and right. The loss of talent is so bad that they are asking people that were let go on a delayed schedule to fill positions that are now open because other senior talent has left. Average pay is about 15-20% below market average and unless you are business critical, even then maybe not, you shouldn't expect any sort of raise or even cost of living adjustment.

Pros

PTO amount is great and Insurance is competitive. The work environment is comfortable and clean. Amenities are nice such as free drinks, places to store your food, and a free gym.

Cons

Upper management is no longer transparent and when job/life altering decisions are being made everyone is told the day of and you either get on board or you are out. It feels as though management could care less about the employees and expect everyone to perform and go above and beyond all while not receiving a fair wage or even receiving a raise in literal years. New employees come into lower level positions and are being paid more than senior level positioned employees even though those senior employees have been in that position for years. No employee loyalty at all. You must have another job offer on the table or threaten to leave for them to magically come up with money for a raise even after you asked previously, and they said they did not have the money. This comes across as the company lying directly to your face because they are trying to pinch pennies. They also directly lie to your face by saying raises and promotions will not happen for a specific group and then secretly promote employees and give them raises and then bring this up in a public forum because they know you will not say something about and if you did they would just terminate you. You are encouraged to grow by learning new skills, expected to implement that in your daily job, train everyone on it, and of course not be compensated fairly after doing all of this and management will literally laugh in your face when you ask for more money. They have no direction at all and feels like management is pulling crumpled paper out of a hat to make the next directionless decision. At the end of the day they always tell you that you should be thankful that you have a job and who cares that you aren’t making 70% of market and are at 50% or even 60% of market pay because you are still getting paid better than a lot of people in the area. They say they want your opinion, but in practice they mark a checkbox that a survey was sent out and do nothing more with the gathered data. Also, your direct manager gets in trouble when you say you do not trust upper management for things upper management has done because apparently it is your managers job to make you think upper management is the best. They have said time and time again that they will hire and keep the most talented individuals in the market but never say how they are going to do that when they don’t want to pay you fairly. They constantly set impossible expectations with customers and expect the employees to learn something overnight or learn it on the fly while working with a downed customer. It is sad to say but I am now looking for a different job and would only recommend Rackspace as a place to get some quick experience and technology exposure under your belt before you move on to something else.
