Pros

Its a listed company and global brand. The building is quite nice but the open office can be noisy and distracting when trying to concentrate on programming. Theres free parking buts is a long way from everything.

Cons

Progression opertunities are very limited. They dont pay very well and take advantage of their position in the north east where competition with other employers is favourable. They have behaved badly in recent years by not giving anual cost of living pay rises to people who were over the limit of a new banding pay scale they brought in. Treating people fairly didn't enter into it. Dont come here expecting to earn top money, you never will. Investment in traing and personel development within the technical teams is pityful. I've seen larger training budgets at much smaller companies. Sage ran a Denison survey to gage staff moral, after getting poor results for 2 years in a row it decided it would just run its own so they could 'ask the right questions', obviously the results are better now.

Pros

Good solid products with a great understanding of the marketplace needs. Employees care about the jobs they do and do the best they can. New (expected) president is supposed to be based out of corporate office (rather than commuting) which should bring a sense of stability and commitment. Number of employees employed 10yrs+.

Cons

Apparent lack of direction from executive management. Finger-pointing at upper levels. Employees don't seem to be excited to come to work each day. We've lost any entrepreneurial spirit. One of our principles is "agility" and it doesn't feel that we embrace it. Change doesn't equal agility. Sometimes it's just a different way of doing the same thing.

Pros

The benefits were nice. The people I worked with were outstanding.

Cons

The travel required for the position was simply unsustainable. Implementing software solutions and having to travel 95%, constantly being pulled in 20 directions. I had 5 managers in my region alone that had control of my schedule and when another manager from a different region would request assistance, they too would have control of my schedule, only adding to the confusion. Conflicts with schedules due to overlaping of time were common. They could plug-in a new project on my calendar and send me off with out consulting me or even asking if it would be a burden on my family. The consideration for "quality of life" was very poor, the organization of management was fractured and disorganized and the lack of a consistent corporate vision only added to the frustration and confusion. Fore example, in 5+ years with the company we changed our name 5 times. (Medical Manager, MM Health Systems, WebMD, Emdeon Health Systems, Sage Software Health Division). The communication between departments was poor, the employee moral was poor, senior leadership rarely interacted with the employees in the field and the career opportunities for advancement were almost non-existent. Once you're in the field, it's very hard to get off the road and move into an office position.
