Pros

Nothing sets this discount bank apart positively from its respectable peers

Cons

Cheapskates on base comp and bonus comp, toxic culture with backstabbing a plenty, horrific retirement benefits with no match unless contributions are directed towards Scotiabank stock with a 2-3 year vest on the matched stock, and as if that wasn’t shameful enough the stock has been flat and garbage for years lagging behind peers. Wrongfully terminated in an attempt for this cheapskate bank to try and dodge severance due to a reorg and resulting in my now being dragged through slog to get what I deserve for 6 years of service to the team I was shown the door from. An utterly abject disgraceful “organization”. Avoid this “bank” like the bubonic plague. -10/10 in every way

If you like a toxic workplace, this is for you

Pros

benefits are good. That's it

Cons

employees receive preferential treatment, exclusive opportunities, and undue recognition, while others are left feeling undervalued and overlooked. This favoritism has created a toxic environment where morale is low, and team cohesion is virtually non-existent. Upper management is a significant part of the problem. They foster this culture of favoritism and are often unapproachable and dismissive of employee concerns. Constructive feedback is ignored, and any attempts to address these issues are met with hostility or indifference. This toxic behavior from the top trickles down, making it difficult for employees to feel motivated or appreciated. There is a clear lack of opportunities for advancement. Promotions and career development seem to be reserved for the favored few, regardless of their qualifications or performance. This has led to a high turnover rate, as many talented individuals choose to leave rather than stay in an environment where their growth is stifled.

Pros

Benefits, average industry pay, work from home

Cons

Top quality Directors, VPs, CIOs and senior execs are gone during 2023 restructuring. No proper vision on where bank is headed. Teams are handed over to inexperienced executives while top technical executives and Directors are let go. Layoff happened based in who knows who not who was the best person for the role. Scotia lost subject matter experts with 20/30+ years of bank's experience.
