Pros

- It is a bank, money is not an issue so you will find all the tools and resources you need to implement any architecture. - Proprietary CI/CD pipeline, sandbox infrastructure to test your build, deployments and POCs - Canadian slow pace culture at work, plenty of time to complete your tasks if you can defend yourself at daily meeting - Pretty diverse team and workers, no discrimination of any kind - Career plan and encouragement to grow, annual performance review and feedback

Cons

- Low salary, you can get better offers easily - Lots and lots of meetings, reduced time to actually work on your tasks - Hard to be promoted, only if you're leaving and you're really good - High VPN Restrictions, working while listening to music is a challenge

Pros

> training period is long (3 months), giving you a lot of time to get used to. > if you are lucky and get a team of hardworking and collaborative synergy, you'll get lots of support. > you get vacation as soon as you start (though not many days) > through practise and as requirement of the job, you learn A LOT about everything when it comes to personal financial planning. MTG, LOC, REFI, INVESTING, BUDGETING. Honestly, all the essentials.

Cons

> constant pressure, did you meet your call target? did you meet your sales target, did you get enough customer reviews and why they are not 10s? > you learn through initiating a learning opportunity yourself. Otherwise, nobody comes to you to say "hey let me teach you this, that". I would have to ask colleagues to sit in their meetings so I can learn from them. Thank goodness there were few nice ones that allowed me to. > pay is very low compared to the stress that you take on. My base was 59 at the time, 67 with bonus. But it wasnt worth it man.

Pros

There are some awesome people working across the Bank that are great to work with. The pay is good and so are the benefits. The Bank is also doing great things in the community, especially during the pandemic.

Cons

Some executives operate much like a high school popularity hierarchy spreading gossip about other people and creating a culture of competition, fear, and distrust. People are promoted to leadership positions with little to no leadership competencies resulting in many toxic hotspots across the organization. Toxic bosses are valued because they get results. Executives say they care about mental health yet pile on work and increase expectations while not considering the pandemic, working from home and family-life. Many people are feeling burnt out and morale is low as they are letting people go all across the Bank. Many colleagues who have worked for other FIs say Scotia is the worst for work/life balance. People are over capacity and still being asked to stretch themselves. While they've made some good strides in advancing more Women to higher level roles (VP+), most of these Women are White and there is hardly any representation of diverse backgrounds on the Executive team or Board with the majority being White Straight Cis Men.
