Pros

Clients (Scotiabank prefers customers) are great! Most co-workers are a pleasure to work with.

Cons

Sales goals are impossible to reach in a regular work week. They lost a class action lawsuit for unpaid overtime, and the demands have only increased. They are not interested in quality of life for their employees, only saving costs (have eliminated back office support) and boosting profits. Pay and benefits are low compared to the competition. Morning meetings are equivalent to a daily verbal lashing.

Pros

- Great friendly highly competent people to work with from all cultures, ages etc - Great learning environment with lots of internal training opportunities - Many Very Interesting projects - Pay is fair - Opportunities to change roles/careers

Cons

- New senior Execs have come in who are applying rather ruthless cost cutting measures despite the bank currently enjoying high profitability - The measures have included significant layoffs, higher levels of outsourcing of work to off shore vendors and a palpable increase in work stress levels for many IT employees - Internal process's and paperwork etc are extremely inefficient, time consuming and very frustrating - Health insurance benefits are weak

Pros

A job to pay bills. Average benefits but at least benefits. Accessible with car or transit. No banking fee which helps right.

Cons

Too many politics. A DIRECTOR or VP will sacrifice you when they screw up and those types screw up a lot. We saw lots of Senior Mgrs and Managers fired because of the mistakes of their bosses. Salaries and benefits below average and there is a reason Scotiabank no longer in the Canada's Most Admired list. Long hours in IT and other depts so really you're making like 10 dollars an hour. Lots of Directors and VPs with poor, old skills. They just know how to talk in mtgs and go for coffee with other upper mgmt. Never spend money on training, promotion still about who you know, not what you know. Director and VP will never support you if doing soon takes courage. All the good people already left. Just 3 types now: 1. young people out of school, 2. Old people couldn't get a job anywhere else and 3. People sending out their resumes
