Pros

You can have all the free coffee you want. Hours were flexible. It was a relatively easy job.

Cons

A lot of the staff is seasonal and never becomes very experienced. The work can be extremely tedious and boring. The pay is not great. Customers sometimes take out their anger at the clerks for reasons that are beyond their control. There is a lot of corporate doublespeak: for example, the lowest paid workers are euphemistically called "sales associates." The staff meetings waste time with hollow idealism: "this is a turning-point for the company, and our success is dependent on everyone's best efforts."

Pros

Starbucks is an excellent place to work unless you work for their call center. The people are excellent and the benefits were extremely good.

Cons

All other positions have the option to attend educational programs funded from within the company. If you take advantage of these courses you will rise quickly. I was hired on in the call center and told these opportunities would be available to me. Unfortunately, they were not. The call center is a dead end. You will only be promoted within the call center. Lateral movement is extremely rare.
