Pros

- very competitive salaries and fringe benefits - always latest technologies in place almost like a high tech company - fantastic office environments - multinational

Cons

- preaches and advertises diversity programs, but does not live them (eg generations: tendency to firing 50+ employees) - Consultancy style management: short term goals and gains are more important than sustainability - not much of a company culture left - Frequent change of line managers - very little consistency - Far less career opportunities if you are a woman - Jobs are continuously 'near shored' to low cost countries

Pros

For the right people, the opportunities are / were truly some of the best in the world. To access these opportunities people need to be able to change locations and positions to gain experience and develop their network. Truly a global company. Although my exit on disability was very complicated and challenging, Swiss Re ultimately maintained professionalism and honest communication in a claims process that is not always so "clean".

Cons

To get the best work people have to fit the Swiss Globalist mold. If you're not a good fit, you will not feel appreciated in most locations. Rather than lead corporately in the fight against employees and benefits, Swiss Re has joined with other peers in "managing costs over time" - meaning slowly eroding pay and benefits. Being part of the global finance industry requires playing by industry rules.

Pros

Overall, Swiss Re is a wonderful company. Great benefits, values and work-life balance.

Cons

The Business Services department within Corporate Solutions is lacking in the management area. A lot of the managers work from home, and these managers lack a proper education and management experience to be effective. Advancement within the Business Services department does not appear to be based on work production, but based on managers opinion of you.
