      Everything good, but the tech

      Pros

      Great life / work balance, great benefits, People are generally nice and smiley. Very easy to "be ahead" of others technically.

      Cons

      Won't be learning anything Managers are just buffers, they won't be able to take action. There will be a lot of watching your screen while it builds, and lots of figuring out why the standard setup that was working yesterday won't work anymore.

      Pros

      Management smart enough to let employees be successful and autonomous in their own realm. The benefits are decent and golden handcuffs help with overall compensation. If you can play the social relationship game you can probably move up without having the needed skills.

      Cons

      Failure of Managers to manage again and again. Relationships and who you know more important than having actual skills......Compensation is on the low side and failure of management to actually communicate leaves a lot to be desired, Same mistakes continue to happen more often than what you would expect for a company of it's size. Where people have taken rolls for the sake of compensation where they neither had the desire or skill to manage.

      Pros

      The people at Tableau are great. They are respectful, smart, and all great to work with. The product is stellar and solves real problems for people, who love it. The company has a strong corporate mission and culture, which is inspiring. The company is very transparent.

      Cons

      The company grew too fast in 2015. It has struggled to right itself. There was a recent change in CEO, so the future prospects may not be the same as past performance. Engineering struggles to add value to the product due to enormous technical debt. While the culture is based on kindness and respect, it also has a strong Microsoft bias (and all that goes with it). Headquarters is in Seattle, which makes it difficult to have an impact from remote offices. Company is narrowing focus to only current enterprise customers.
