Pros

The company pays for good talent. It is best to join the company after having worked for a consulting firm or at a competitor. Those that started their careers at Target tend to get paid less than those that joined mid-career. Opportunities abound at Target, just know what you want and know when to express it. (i.e. after you've done something great, somebody who likes your work will ask you if you've thought about what you want to do next. Be prepared for this as it can save you from moving in the wrong direction or help you move into that key next position before it's posted)

Cons

As with any company, it is really important to carefully select the people you want to work with/for. If somebody doesn't like your work or the way you work, you may be coached out of the organization. Target has a very strong culture or being nice, friendly and collaborative. And when it comes time for reviews, your manager will ask everyone what they think of you. If you are not "nice" or "collaborative" you'll hear about it and this is a very difficult image to overcome. Also, you will get a ton of feedback from anyone, anywhere. Just be prepared for it and learn how to sort the good feedback from the bad.

Target Marketing: a sinking ship.

Pros

Big brand. Opportunities to learn larger scope marketing.

Cons

Target Marketing: Incompetent leadership. Toxic environment. Insanitary financial administration. Poor vision of the future. Some key changes in leadership and focus have made Target lose the strong brand equity it built in the 1990s and reduce a former marketing power house to a community of bottom-feeders more concerned with their own inner culture than with developing solid strategies to stay relevant in the current market.

Pros

Great Pay and Benefits. Great people to work with and very flexible on scheduling. Awesome 401k, they help with health and dental insurance.

Cons

Very disappointing that you must have a college degree to move up within the company. They keep stripping stores of there positions while creating more at corporate level.
