Pivotal Moment, Outcome Uncertain

Pros

Really intelligent, talented, kind and diverse people to work with who all care a lot about the company. Usually very flexible working arrangements (both location and schedule). A lot of stretch opportunities to build your skills and resume.

Cons

For an organization that basically birthed agile development and prides itself upon excellent client transformational outcomes it is incredibly ironic that it has been unable to change and adapt to the challenges of becoming a public company and facing the current macro economic pressures. It is clear that the executives leading the company today, while they are undoubtedly amazing, dedicated and talented Thoughtworkers, are probably not fit for the purpose of running a public company. Many have been there for practically their entire careers, which is a great story until the business starts to fail due to their lack of expertise. There is a company wide restructuring initiative currently running, and not a single senior executive is being replaced (some are actually having their responsibilities expanded), despite the dismal lack of strategic execution over the past few years. Employees are regularly asking for more transparency into company strategy during these uncertain times and executives are providing very little to go on, is this due to secrecy or do they just not have a clue how to handle this stage of the company's journey? This is concerning as both an employee and as an equity holder. The company culture has become watered down, and is more of a nod to the good old days at this point. Operational challenges abound, and there is no strategy or investment to correct the internal flaws that make sales and revenue generation so difficult. In my opinion it is 50/50 as to whether this formerly iconic organization is going to be able to turn it around to survive. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad company to work for, and on a day to day basis the pros usually outweigh the cons, it is just terribly fragile and uncertain right now and the work atmosphere is very reflective of this.
