Pros

Some of your coworkers are nice.

Cons

Imagine you have worked for a company for 25 years and then getting added to a call with 15 other people. The person who you have only talked to once joins the call and reads a 4 minute script informing you that everyone on the call is fired. This happened to 15 people at UL's product management team today. I'd highly suggest working for any other company. The layoffs made no sense either with one product manager being laid off who was going to replace a retiring product manager in 3 months. Did leadership take that into account? Of course not!

Pros

Maybe the 401k? Outside of that...nothing.

Cons

Doesn't even pay minimum market value for salary of my title when I am actually an architect and much more. Took 3 years for the company to actually issue me a laptop that is strong enough to do the daily duties of my job. I had to build my own computer against company policy and use it for over a year and a half because of their shoddy corporate IT department and simply not suppling adequate hardware to perform my job.

Pros

- Work/life balance is decent depending on the roll. - Amount of positions and departments creates opportunities to move around. - Vacation days on par with other large companies. - Up to nine sick days per calendar year. - 401k match is good. - Health insurance is good. - Beautiful campus. - Great history and mission.

Cons

- Pay. This is by far the biggest gripe in a laboratory position. UL claims they offer competitive pay, but if that were the case, the turnover wouldn't be so high. - Promotions are few and far between. - Bonuses were reduced for the people who could use it most. Executives tried to pass a new pay mix as a great thing, but a simple excel spreadsheet proves this idea falls flat on its face, and frankly, it's insulting. - Top heavy: Manager on top of manager. - Too many tenured engineers are useless and not held accountable. - No clear direction. Ask 20 people what the new strategy is, and you will get 20 different answers.
