      Don't need to be super to stand out.

      Cons

      No vision from leadership. Slow to make strategic decisions. Lack of capital to do something new. Losing market share, and no real chance to compete with the rising international competition out there in Certification.

      I currently work at UL, started in 1983. Loved it then, it's a huge struggle today. UL has lost sight of its Mission.

      Pros

      The work is very interesting; the people are fantastic; flexible hours are great; wonderful opportunity to work with external clients from all areas of every industry.

      Cons

      Managements main concern is now about money whereas in the past, it truly was about safety. We're bombarded with numbers regarding growth and revenue and lay employees off every couple of years. No replacement for those laid off, work gets loaded onto remaining employees. "Do more with less" and running "lean" is a troubling way to conduct business, especially for those work 40 plus and don't get compensated for it.
