Great camaraderie and sense of purpose. Great benefits, especially family programs, medical, and dental.

Cons

Many nights away from home. Promotions partly based on merit, but limited by years in grade or service. Certainly many hardships.

Cons

locations, deployment, dangerous at times, you can't quit if you don't like what you're doing or going through.
