Pros

- Best marketing school in the world - you learn everything about Marketing properly! - Very international inclusive culture, - Depends on the team but mostly nice people who work there - Free Gym - As a Senior Brand Manger I have very positive experience

Cons

- Depends on the team and how workaholic your line manager is, but mostly in those years I worked long hours with a very bad work life balance - Only 1 from 10 Assistant managers can hope for a promotion, usual time is roughly 4 years until you can hope a promotion with almost no pay increase during that time - very bad salary - when you are unlucky and have a bad manager/director your career will be over (In one team I was even bullied by my line manager and director, fortunately I changed teams and it got better) because Unilever HR always supports line managers - Bad attitude towards Assistant Brand Managers in most team (they wont be in important meetings, do the majority of the work and get bad salary) The company tried to change on that end but it was still in a bad place. As a Senior I had mostly positive experience

Pros

Has a good employer branding strategy so it looks good at resume to have worked at the company.

Cons

1) the company applies a hidden agenda where it in 90% of cases only promotes people who have started their career at Unilever as trainees. All other employes that have been hired have a difficult time to have a succesful career and rise in the ranks at the company. Believe me, i have been working there several years. trainess rise fast through the ranks and when they are high in rank, they more or less only promotes new trainees. it is basically a closed group even though this is not the companies offical ways of working which is communicated internally or externally. 2) There is a very high turnover of employees (which basically only consists of employees that did not start as trainees). 3) low pay & work hours is very long. many people in the company works very very long hours every day. you do not get compansated for extra hours worked. you are paid for 7,5hours per day even if the average workhours is more in line with 11 hours per day.

Hi. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your role and experience here at Unilever. In the first instance we would suggest setting up a meeting with your HR Business Partner who will be able to look at your specific points. Promotions are based on a number of factors, and we do not focus solely on those who have joined through the Future Leaders Programme. We will ensure your other points around working hours and turnover are passed on to the respective teams. Thank you again for your review and we wish you all the best.

Pros

Great benefits, fast paced, fun people, inspiring communications, company activities, free icecream and fantastic office location.

Cons

Staff were over worked, no real company induction, didn't know who to contact or what I was supposed to be doing, the level of long term sick is the highest I've seen in any organisation. It seems that the culture is to work people until they are completely burnt out and then expect them to go off sick until they return again and repeat the cycle. I saw this happen at all levels of the organisation and decided to move on before it happened to me. This is an issue at all levels of the orgnanisation as I saw it happen to senior leaders and support staff alike.
