Pros

Work/Life balance is very good. Lots of sick, personal, holiday and vacation days, raises, bonuses, profit sharing

Cons

Career progression is non existent. Company follows a "union style" employment mentality, keeping dead wood long past the time to get rid of them. Raises are generally granted based on being alive, no such thing as a true merit increase. Same goes for bonuses. Performance reviews are a waste of time, never looked at. No recognition for performance that exceeds expectations. Company is filled with upper management that is clueless to technology, especially in IT dept.

Pros

Salaries are good after several years of work. The health benefits are probably better than most, although not 100% covered for management, it is 100% covered for associates. Pensions were frozen a couple years back for management. Tuition assistance is a big plus, with 100% coverage up to $8000 annually for both hourly and management. Several employees have completed their undergraduate and graduate degrees through this program.

Cons

There is a lot of pressure to meet performance metrics, whether it be in a call center (operator or sales), or in the field as a technician. This exists as all levels of the company, as there is a lot of competition with cable. Since we are a former monopoly, those employees with several years of experience have trouble understanding and being motivated by the intense pressure of competition, and almost have a feeling of entitlement towards their employment and what the company should provide them through benefits and incentives, without feeling the need to raise their game in return. New employees with a sense of what is like "on the outside" usually have a better attitude and work hard to keep performance high.

Pros

Benefits, compensation is an unknown for me. Annual bonus is nice, but some of the factors are irrelevent to performance...It's a given you will get something, but it's stingy. Cost controls seem excessive on the surface, but VZ has good SGA.

Cons

Constant threat of downsize, middle managers are stuffed shirts for the most part. Image is more important than substance. Very slow moving. Lack of integration of business units at the front line level...too much turf warring.
