Pros

Verizon is a well respected brand in the industry and having it on your resume could lead to better positions in other companies. Pay (depending on what company you were hired in) can be decent.

Cons

Too many levels of management which can feel overwhelming at times and very disconnected to the company at large. Certain demands of job are unreasonable due to the constant change in procedures and policies. Moving up within the ranks is very difficult because the requirements for promotions or business group moves are cumbersome or near impossible to fulfill. Benefits within the different segments of Verizon are varied which can feel inequitable. No sense of seniority so when layoffs do come around, you're never sure where you stand.

Pros

Verizon provides a competitive base salary and what can be a lucrative commission component for the sales teams. They also have a very broad reaching and technically advanced network, which provides a sound platform for offering geographically diverse and technically future-proof solutions to a broad range of businesses. Verizon provides a diversity of companies (Verizon Business, Domestic Telecom, Verizon Wireless) which allow for diverse opportunities across diverse companies, with each one providing unique and possibly beneficial cultural and philosophical environments. The company has good tuition aid and matching funds for charitable contributions. You also can get discounts on Verizon products and services.

Cons

Ever since Verizon acquired MCI and created the Verizon Business business unit, the company has continually and systematically destroyed the company through their poor business practices and unethical sales practices. The MCI senior management team, which took control of VzB, has been totally out of touch regarding the diverse market units which comprise the national base of customers across the Verizon footprint. The company has continually downsized, where literally thousands of years of outstanding and competent employe experience has either been heartlessly let go or, worse, where an opportunity was created for the best people to leave Verizon where many quickly went to key competitors which will hurt the company for years to come.

Pros

You get very good overall exposure from working on well spread application and dealing with all kind of people. Verizon keep updated with latest technology

Cons

Sometimes unfair to its employees. Speaking from my personal opinion - there was a recent change in management in our group and so the new boss brought along his own team with him. From the very start he was indeifferent to some of the existing members and when it was time for RIF, couple of existing guys had to go. I was not even given a chance to prove mysef and no old references were taken into account. It feels like all these years of working for verizon went down the drain.
