Pros

opportunity to work for a global Tier1 Telco carrier. Opportunity to travel, relocate within the company. extensive training resources. if you obtain the right role, opportunity to make significant income. The company has offices in every significant city worldwide.

Cons

Operational structure from a global accounts perspective favors the US. The organization is highly bureaucratic. As you would expect with an American HQ'd company, the customer base is predominately American, and the product is perceived as supporting US based operations. The organization has morphed from WorldCom, to MCI to Verizon, during which time there have been multiple 'reductions in force'. This has sucked the life and moral out of the company.

Pros

Verizon has great benefits, and the payscale is generous. It helps to be able to move around the country...good entry-level position for a new college grad.

Cons

Not spending enough money on technology and better software systems (for internal use)

Pros

Annual bonus/performance share as a percentage of salary can be counted on at year end. It is a better bonus than I ever got with EDS.

Cons

Not enough personnel. They 'acquired' my team from EDS where we had 12 people supporting 3 applications. The three of us that stayed with the project and converted to Verizon were assured that replacements would be hired for those that did not transition. Only two temporary contractors were hired and one is gone. We now have 3 people trying to do the same job as the original 12. We cannot hire any replacements, so a 50 hour work week is the norm, with a growing backlog of work. To top it off insufficient funds were allocated to the budget for the people assigned (much less the number of people actually needed!), so important work is going undone because there is 'no budget'.
