Pros

Tuition assistance, 50% off cell service

Cons

Weak management, use of fear to control employees, high stress. I should have figured something from the beginning. In training i remember them bringing a bunch of leadership in to meet the new hire class. It was like watching an episode of Stepford wives...everyone one said the exact same thing using the same words. They harped on why we don't need a union with our open door policy. I emailed h.r. to ask if i could come by for a few minutes to talk and she said no...u need an appointment. So much for that open door. They lied to me when i asked about the details of the job, and now they keep me running scared with one written warning after the other. Each written lasts six months to a year, which means no raises or bonuses, no transferring out of the department or participating in any events or special projects.

Pros

Good salary and benefits Tuition Assistance for degrees that support your job function

Cons

No opportunity for advancement unless you are willing to move to New Jersey There is no employee development or encouragement to take training outside of Verizon products and pricing. Achieving an MBA is not celebrated or recognized. How performance ratings and pay increases are determined are not standard across workgroups. When a layoff occurs, performance is of no importance. Most layoffs are due to age and if the employee is near the top of a salary band.

Pros

In October of 2015 they reorganized the company, centralized the 21 regions into 5 markets and centralized all controls and decision making. The layoffs will continue into 2016 and rumor is 35,000 jobs in all will be cut and 30% of retail stores closed. I think what I did and what I got paid will be pretty meaningless in the near future. I was with them since 1999 in a variety of operation and finance roles. They took great care of those of us who got riffed but in a few years, I won't recognize what is left of the company.

Cons

Like any big company, they will do whatever serves the shareholders' best interest. Company focuses so much on it's customers, they are losing valuable talent to add a couple of points to the stock shares. Leadership doesn't share long term strategy with the team.
