Pros

I enjoy the people I work with immensely.

Cons

We previously had Compensatory Time. Any billable hours earned after 40 billable hours in a week would go to your Comp Time bank and could be used as PTO during slower periods. Each quarter any hours in excess of 120 hours would be paid out at your hourly rate. Management got rid of that. We switched to Straight Time Overtime (STOT) and you can take Leave Without Pay (LWOP). “Should be a 1-1 transition”, you may think. Unfortunately, with how LWOP is currently coded in the system, you are forced to take 5 consecutive business days of LWOP in order to accrue your normal PTO. If you work a 72 hr week, and then 8 hrs the following Monday, taking LWOP the rest of the week, you’ll only accrue 60% of the PTO you should have been, unless you also take the next Monday off. But if you take it off you’ll lose out on a full days pay just to accrue the PTO you should have been all along. I feel like I am disincentivized to work extra hours on my field projects and I am punished if I do. My options are to lose out on PTO, worked hours (money) or to not take time off to the detriment of myself and the projects I work on. This is a fundamentally abhorrent practice and cruel to your employees. It may even be illegal in some states.

Marketers - Run for the Hills

Pros

While there is significant pressure put on the marketing team, they do their best to support one another - always offering a helping hand or a word of advice. The team has great ideas for improvement, if only leadership would provide the resources and backing necessary to make them a success.

Cons

AEC marketing is a great niche industry to grow your career in - just not at WSP. Promotions are non-existent and salaries are stagnant and often below market rate. End-of-year reviews are nothing but glorified paper-pushing as you get an “attaboy” and a vague promise that maybe next year you’ll move up or get that raise you’ve worked so hard for. But don’t dare rock the boat to ask for what you deserve...you’ll be met with open hostility from leadership backed by the incompetent HR staff. Marketers have no say in pursuit decisions and are treated with a general disrespect by leadership. The company is grossly mismanaged - by a group of middle-aged white men who “shush” women openly in meetings. There is no work/life balance to speak of - get ready to work regular 12 hours days because engineering staff chases ALL opportunities without vetting them properly. There are limited resources and marketing staff is stretched to the breaking point. Health insurance is a joke, especially their one week paid maternity leave. Leadership consistently spouts the motto “work hard, play hard,” but it’s YOU working and them playing. If you are looking for a successful, supportive team environment - one that will support your career goals and respect your life outside of the office - this isn’t the place for you. WSP offers only a daily grind of disappointment and a voiceless existence.

Pros

-Salary (WSP is working quickly to fix this "Pro") -Alternate Work Schedule (which they're removing effective June 1.) -BYO Mobile Plan (for now)

Cons

-WSP has single-handedly ruined Parsons Brinckerhoff. They laid off 80+ salaried full-time employees. Moved positions to other offices without telling the business or anyone at Parsons Brinckerhoff. Have hired seasonal interns to do the work of said salaried full-time employees. Talk about a compliance nightmare. -During those layoffs, affected employees had to take PTO to interview to find another job. Are you kidding me?! -Those unaffected have been bailing left and right. HR function is a shadow of its former self. -Micromanagement of individual contributors. -Constant revolving door of line level managers. -Petty corporate politics. -Cutbacks and layoffs all to save a buck. Which they will then turn around and spend on acquiring yet another company. -Zero communication. -Small low cublicles with zero privacy. Teams expected to duke it out over small huddle romos to make calls that are sensitive in nature. My advice to you, keep looking. This is not a good place to further your career.
