Pros

Nice offices Flexible for remote work (team dependent) Some colleagues are very lovely Diversity of ethnicities and backgrounds

Cons

The women I’ve met at WSP have all been strong women. I think it’s because they’ve had to be. It’s a boys club. Certain people and teams (Leadership/Legal) are incredibly dismissive, unhelpful and condescending. Lots of egos at play. Any feedback to management goes unanswered.

Pros

Met some truly brilliant people here, but they've mostly moved on for places that don't just treat them like a number on a spreadsheet. Exposure to large projects that can look good on a resume. Get your 3 years here, and jump ship.

Cons

The whole business strategy at this place is predicated on bringing in fresh grads at above average market rate salary, and then putting them through a meat grinder with poor raises and no/low bonuses. Expect to get staffed on projects doing things you've never done before and be expected to figure most things out by yourself, on low project budgets. Very much a sink or swim environment. Management's incredibly out of touch with millennial working force ("work as if you own the company" gets thrown around, as if there's any incentive to do that here). There are very few intermediate staff around because as soon as people gain any kind of leverage (i.e. a PEng), they leave. Turnover here is high, and for good reason.

Pros

- Some of the best people I've ever worked with, incredibly supporting direct people managers - Huge variety of projects - Great industry reputation - Encourages involvement in professional development - Pay is decent and 15 days of PTO is the starting point

Cons

- WSP USA keeps buying up other firms. Merging with these firms has taken years, multiple restructures and lots of headaches. Employees in the same discipline are kept under different umbrellas, and this causes lots of headaches when trying to find folks within this massive company with the skills for a project. I've also noticed some "territorial-ism" when it comes to adding folks not from WSP originally to projects (favoriting WSPers over those recently merged). - Constant restructuring - Benefits are expensive and not comprehensive - Total lack of middle level employees, leading project and people managers to (expensively) fill in those gaps. Despite the lack of middle-tiered employees, those at the cusp of entry/middle levels are told to "wait until you've worked X years" or "get in line" before achieving those titles and pay. In this way, promotions and opportunities are overly bureaucratized.
