The (public) parent company trap

Pros

Started with small company environment & culture with the GRB side. Excellent work culture and people. The company in general valued its employees.

Cons

When GRB was combined with Tundra into one building, the culture morphed and it became a popularity contest. Tundra had more employees to begin with so they influenced who was to be ousted. It became a bit "cut-throat" and "survival of the fittest" kind of work culture unfortunately. To make matters worse, the parent company bought Focus so off course there were too much overlap. Then to top it off the sharp drop in oil/gas commodity price.

Pros

I had joined as a fresher in Fire Protection Services team and spend more than a year. I learnt so many things but not happy with line manager policy even no body in team is happy because he didn't give equal opportunity to share their experience as well as problems.

Cons

Their policy is not good because i was working from more than a year and one day in evening they said we don't have work and we are reducing our team and another hand they are recruiting the more peoples. I never give advice to anyone to join WSP because it happened 2 times while my tenure and now also i am suffering.

Pros

- One of the best building consultants (brands, standards, work qualities, project portfolios) - If can manage time well, 9-5 working period with very rare overtime is possible - Conducive environment to learn as fresh graduate - Encourages a lot of learning and training - Many welfare activities and incentives - No/less working politics

Cons

- The pay is relatively low, even as compared with other consultants (starting pay at $2900, have not changed for 2 years) - No overtime pay (only meal/transport if really late) - Very few company benefits & compensations - High staff turnover (expect 2 new staffs per week)
